Continuing Education FAQ’s


1. Can I take a course without a WA state electrical or plumbing license?

Yes. Our courses are open to the public; anyone can register. If you do not have an electrical or plumbing license, please let us know at the time of registration.

2. How do I purchase/register for a CEU course?

You can purchase/register for a CEU classroom course in the following ways:

    3. I’m a returning customer, do I have to create a new account?

    No, you only need to create an online account once. You will establish a username and password upon creating your account. Once created, you will continue to log in with your designated username and password. To log in to your account,click here.

    4. Can I pay for a classroom course when I get there?

    No, CITC cannot process a registration without full payment. CITC must receive your registration and payment at our office in Bellevue prior to your class date. We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

    CITC accepts payment by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Cash, Check or Money Order. Online course purchases are final. Refunds are not issued for online courses, unless students are unable to access or complete an online course due to technical difficulties originating from the CITC website or servers.

    5. What materials are required for my course?

    The required materials for each course are listed in both the printed catalog beneath each course description as well as online at http://cart.ccec.us/index.php under the “Description” tab of each course. For classroom courses, you will also receive a confirmation email which includes the required materials in both an attachment and the body of the email.

    It is the responsibility of the student to have the required book, materials and/or tools necessary to complete the course(s) you have purchased. Required books, such as the NEC Code Book or Uniform Plumbing Code Book can be purchased online through various retailers, or at your local supply store. CITC does NOT sell books.

    6. Where do I find the address and driving directions to my classroom course?

    After purchasing a classroom course, you will receive a receipt and course confirmation via email, which includes directions to the location of your course.

    7. Will I receive a receipt for my order?

    Yes, you will receive a receipt via email following the successful purchase of course(s). If you do not have an email address, you can request to have a receipt sent to you by mail.

    8. Can my hours be applied to my Electrical Journeyman and Admin licenses?

    Yes, per WAC 296-46B-970(2)(e)(iv): An individual who has both an electrician certificate and an administrator certification may use the same class to fulfill the requirements for continuing education.

    9. Can my hours go toward my Electrical Trainee & Journeyman/Admin licenses?

    No, per WAC 296-46B-970(2)(f)(i)(A): The individual cannot use a basic trainee class as credit for the continuing education requirements for renewing an electrician or administrator certificate(s) when the class is also used to satisfy the training certificate renewal requirements. When you sign the roster at the beginning of class, please mark whether you want the continuing education hours reported to your Trainee card or Journeyman/Administrator license.

    10. Will I receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course?

    Yes. Upon successful completion of an online course, a certificate of completion will be available to download and print. Upon successful completion of a classroom course, you will receive a certificate of completion from your instructor in class. For students who registered within 3 business days of the course, your certificate of completion will be emailed to you following successful completion of the course.

    11. When will my CEU credits be reported to L & I?

    Upon successful completion of an online or classroom CEU course, we will report your continuing education hours electronically to the Washington Department of Labor and Industries Electrical or Plumbing Program within the required 7 days.

    12. I can’t remember my username and/or password, what do I do?

    To retrieve a lost password, click here. you will be prompted to enter your email address. You will receive an email containing your password. If you are still unable to access your account after, call the CEU department at 877-238-8646 for assistance.

    13. I purchased an online course, how do I get started?

    To begin taking your online course, log in to your account in one of the following ways:

  • 1. Click here enter your username and password.
  • 2. You will receive a receipt of your order by email. Click the link found at the bottom of your receipt to log in to your account.
  • 14. What is the format of your online courses?

    Our online electrical courses contain informational slideshows, audio, multimedia, and multiple choice questions. Students are required to successfully fulfill both a time and test score requirement based on the length of the course.

    Depending on the state, our online plumbing courses will consist of approximately 20 - 30 multiple-choice questions, per hour of continuing education credit given. For example, a 4 hour course requires that you answer approximately 80 - 120 questions, and an 8 hour course requires that you answer approximately 160 - 240 questions.

    15. What score do I need to pass an online course and how many tries do I get?

    Online Plumbing courses: you must answer every question and receive a score of 70% or better to receive a certificate of completion and CEU credit for the course.

    Online Electrical courses: to successfully complete an online Electrical course you must fulfill the following time and test score requirements: • You are required to be online for the same amount of credit hours you will receive upon completion. Courses are timed in 50 minute-hours. Your time will begin accumulating as soon as you enter the course. The "Time Elapsed" feature in the top left corner tells you how much time remains to fulfill the time requirements. • You must be active within the course to continue accumulating time. If you leave the course idle, or spend too much time in another website you will automatically be logged out. • You will be shown a series of slides and asked various questions throughout the course. If you complete the course before fulfilling your time requirement, click "Next" on the last slide to go to the beginning of the course. Review the course materials to accumulate your remaining time. You will not be required to answer any questions that you have already answered correctly. • Along with the time requirement for the course, you must also achieve a passing score of at least 70%.

    16. How long do I have to complete my online course?

    You have one year from the date of registration to complete an online course; you have unlimited attempts to successfully complete a course within that one year period.

    17. Do I have to complete an online course in one sitting?

    No; you do not have to complete an online course in one sitting. You have one year from the date of purchase to complete the course. You may log in and out as many times as necessary within that one year period. All of the answers you've submitted will be saved, and if your course is timed, your accumulated time will also be saved. When you log back in, your course will begin where you left off previously.

    18. What if I fail an online course?

    If you have answered all the questions, and if your course is timed, fulfill the time requirements, but fall below the passing score of 70%, you will be given the option to re-set the course and start over from the beginning. If your course is timed, your time will not be re-set; you will continue to accumulate more time. If you do not pass the course within a one year period, your course will expire and you you will be required to repurchase the course if desired. There are no refunds for online courses.

    19. Can I skip a question?

    If you do not know the answer to a question, you can click the “Skip” button in the bottom right corner. Once you've gone through the entire course, it will cycle back to the questions you skipped. You must answer every question in the course.

    20. Can I print out the online test and mail it in?

    No, CITC’s online courses must be completed online to receive the appropriate continuing education hours.

    21. I passed my online course, now what do I do?

    When you pass your online course, your certificate of completion will be available to download and print. Print a copy of your certificate to keep for your records. CITC will report your continuing education hours electronically to the Washington Department of Labor and Industries Electrical or Plumbing Program within the required 7 days.
