ATTENTION ELECTRICAL TRAINEE CARD HOLDERS: Per Washington State Labor and Industries, electrical trainee card holders are required to take 16 hours of Basic Classroom Electrical Training (BCET) prior to renewal every two years.  The training must be completed in a classroom - online or correspondence courses will not fulfill the requirement.  For a list of available classes, click the link below.

Washington Continuing Education Requirements - Journeyman, Administrator, & Master Electricians

  • 24 hours every three years
  • 8 hours current National Electric Code
  • 4 hours RCW/WAC Update
  • 12 hours industry-related

  • Electrical Basics (4 hours of Industry-Related, $60.00): Topics include electrical safety, electrical theory, electrical code and specific applications for plumbers. The course provides all necessary content, drawings and diagrams required to answer the questions. Required books: NONE
  • NEC Update 2008 (8 hours of Code Update, $80.00): This online course consists of questions that highlight additions, deletions and commonly encountered changes to the 2008 edition of the National and State electrical codes. This course covers Article 90 through Article 830. Required books: 2008 NEC.
  • RCW/WAC Update (4 hours of RCW/WAC, $40.00): This course is for ELECTRICIANS ONLY - not plumbers! Class covers most current adopted Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 19.28 and its related Washington Administrative Code (WAC).  Required materials: Current RCW/WAC's
  • Low Voltage & Limited Energy: (4 hours of industry-related, $40.00): This 4 hour, 100 question online course focuses on current NEC and Washington Administrative Code (WAC 296-46B) rule requirements for Low Voltage and Limited Energy installations. Questions are conveniently arranged by article number. Required books: 2008 NEC, Current RCW/WACs.
  • Introduction to Parallel Circuits Online (4 hours of industry-related, $40.00): This 4 hour online course will show the electrician how to solve parallel circuit calculations in relationship to volt, amps, ohms and watts. The information needed to solve the 100 questions in this online course is included. Required books: NONE
  • Introduction to Series Circuits Online (4 hours of industry-related, $40.00): This online course teaches the student calculation methods for series circuits including; current, voltage drops, resistance and wattages that contain resistors and inductors in series. A section is included on breakers; how they function in a circuit as the series over current protection device. On completion the student will be able to calculate resistance loads in series with a power source. Required books: NONE

HVAC Specialty License

Washington Continuing Education Requirements - HVAC (06A and 06B) Specialty Electricians

  • 24 hours every two years
  • 8 hours National Electric Code
  • 12 hours industry-related

NOTE: CITC Electrical Online Courses are approved for all journeyman, administrator, and master electricians regardless of specialty.  HVAC specialty electricians may also take any course listed above to fulfill their continuing education hours.

Washington Continuing Education Requirements - Plumbers & Plumber Trainees

  • 16 hours every two years (plumber trainees must complete 8 hours each year)
  • 8 hours Uniform Plumbing Code 
  • 4 hours industry-related electrical
  • 4 hours code, industry-related electrical, or industry-related plumbing

  • Top Plumbing Questions (4 hours of Plumbing Code, $40.00): This course, based on the latest edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Washington State Amendments, covers the most commonly asked questions in the plumbing industry. Required books: 2006 UPC, current WA State Amendments
  • NEC Update 2008 (8hours of Industry-Related Electrical, $80.00): This course recommended only for plumbers who also hold an electrical license. This online course consists of questions that highlight additions, deletions and commonly encountered changes to the 2008 edition of the National and State electrical codes. This course covers Article 90 through Article 830. Required books: 2008 NEC.

  • Waste and Vent Sizing (4 hours of Plumbing Code, $40.00) Using the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code, this course shall take the student through the proper application and interpretation of chapters 7 through 10 of the 2006 UPC as it relates to drain, waste, and vent loading and pipe sizing. Required books: 2006 UPC, current WA State Amendments.
  • Water Pipe Sizing (4 hours of Plumbing Code, $40.00): Using the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code, this course will walk you through the steps to properly size water piping. You will gain a working knowledge of the current Water Supply Fixture Units and using the tables in Chapter 6 of the code you will correctly apply the pipe size to ensure adequate water supply to a building. Required books: 2006 UPC, current WA State Amendments.
